# Over 6,500 sign up for free Romanian language courses in Moldova

The courses are part of a national program approved for the years 2023-2025 and are open to both non-native speakers and refugees from Ukraine.

*"We believe it's crucial to provide opportunities for non-native speakers, those who don't speak Romanian today, to learn it,"* said Education Minister Dan Perciun. *"We're delighted that we've managed to allocate resources, around 10 million lei this year, to fund a national program for studying the Romanian language."*

The courses began last month in 45 educational institutions in Bălți, Chișinău, UTA Găgăuzia, and Taraclia. The first phase of the program, which runs from July 3 to September 17, is for 2,500 participants. The second phase, from September 25 to December 3, will train an additional 4,000 people.

Upon completing the courses, participants will receive a certificate indicating their language proficiency level, in accordance with the provisions of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
