On Friday, Japan signed an agreement with Ukraine to provide Kyiv with a $3 billion loan backed by frozen Russian assets, according to the *Kyiv Independent*.

The loan is part of the G7 initiative to accelerate extraordinary revenue flows to Ukraine, aiming to provide $50 billion for reconstruction and defense.

The loan will be repaid through proceeds from around $300 billion in frozen Russian sovereign assets held in G7 accounts.

The G7 loan package is primarily funded by the European Union and the United States, each contributing roughly $20 billion. Japan, the United Kingdom, and Canada are contributing the rest.

Japan has supported Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, contributing over $8.5 billion in budgetary aid to date.
