# Baby found dead in a well in Soroca; a 36-year-old woman is under criminal investigation

A 36-year-old woman from the Soroca district is under criminal investigation, suspected of illegally terminating her pregnancy and discarding the fetus into a well.

According to Svetlana Talpa, the press officer of the Soroca Police Inspectorate, this case came to light after employees at the Soroca District Hospital alerted the authorities. They suspected that a woman seeking medical help had induced an abortion at home.

Law enforcement officials preliminarily determined that the woman terminated her pregnancy without medical supervision and discarded the fetus into a well near her home, as stated by Svetlana Talpa in an interview with Teleradio-Moldova.

The lifeless body of the baby was recovered and sent for forensic examination to determine the exact cause of death.

As a result of this incident, a criminal case was opened.
