The Moldovan Government approved on April 8 the enlistment of up to 1,200 recruits for the National Army's spring cycle. The recruitment process, scheduled to begin this month, includes 10 candidates for short-term service.

Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii emphasized that the induction is a routine procedure conducted twice a year. The mobilization will be financed through both local administration budgets and the Ministry of Defense's central funds.

**Strategic modernization efforts**

Standard military service in Moldova lasts 12 months for citizens aged 18 and older. Graduates of university military departments are eligible for a specialized three-month reduced service term.

Minister Nosatii recently defended these policies in Parliament, where a simple motion against the ministry was defeated on March 12. He noted that Moldova is successfully transitioning from an underfunded force to a professional army.

**Equipment and budget growth**

With support from international partners, the National Army has updated its essential inventory. Soldiers are now equipped with modern ballistic vests, high-performance helmets, and night-vision optics.

Beyond equipment, the ministry has overhauled housing conditions and nutritional standards for personnel. This shift aligns with the national strategy to increase defense spending to 1% of GDP by 2030.
