# Pre-Vetting Commission announces how many applicants for membership of the SCM have challenged decisions at the Supreme Court of Justice

A total of 40 judicial and non-judicial candidates were evaluated in the competition for the position of member of the Superior Council of Magistracy - 28 judicial and 12 non-judicial candidates.

According to the press release, 31 candidates completed the entire evaluation process and 9 candidates either withdrew from the competition or did not have the necessary documents. The promotion rate for judges was 18% and 25% for non-judges.

The selection and evaluation mechanism for judges will be improved in order to ensure an objective and fair assessment of candidates for judgeships. A decision to this effect was approved at today's Cabinet meeting.

Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru stressed that the selection and evaluation of judges are key elements in ensuring an independent and professional judiciary.
