The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in France is taking steps to light up the Eiffel Tower in the colors of Moldova's national flag on August 27, in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the country's proclamation of independence. Ambassador Lorina Bălteanu said that this gesture, which is rarely extended to other nations, would give Moldova exceptional international visibility.

The lighting of the Eiffel Tower in honor of another nation is granted quite rarely. Recently, this honor has been extended only to the USA, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of its declaration of independence, and to Ukraine, which has seen the Eiffel Tower illuminated in its flag colors on its national day since the start of the war. This gesture is a unique recognition from the French Republic and would provide our country with unprecedented visibility, the ambassador stated on the diplomatic mission's social media.

Lorina Bălteanu, the ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to France, mentioned that she initiated the necessary steps to obtain approvals from the French authorities for this project. To fund the initiative, she has launched an appeal to raise 25,000 euros. The event, titled "Moldova-35 in Paris" is planned to take place at the Champ de Mars, the park located at the base of the Eiffel Tower.

She emphasized that the appeal for solidarity is being promoted primarily in her own name and noted that she would personally contribute to the financing of the project.

"The independence of the Republic of Moldova is a celebration not just for the government, but for its people. Therefore, I believe that citizens who wish to participate in the celebration of our national day can join together in this collective effort with their state," the ambassador's message read.

Bălteanu expressed her confidence that, although the project still relies on various factors, the Eiffel Tower will eventually be illuminated in the colors of the flag of the Republic of Moldova. If not on this year’s anniversary, then at another significant moment.
