# Moldova apple exports to UK surge fivefold after tariff cuts

Meeting these market demands requires strict compliance with international quality, harvesting, and cold-chain storage standards.

The growth follows the extension of the UK-Moldova Strategic Partnership, Trade and Cooperation Agreement, which simplified or eliminated import tariffs on key agricultural goods.

Under these revised terms, Moldovan producers, including Telenești-based exporter Vitalie Obrijanu, have successfully placed fresh produce on UK retail shelves.

Obrijanu, who manages over 140 hectares of orchards, recently delivered fresh apples to a British social initiative supplying fresh fruit to schools.

While a small portion of his harvest supplies local retail networks, the vast majority is exported to major European supermarket chains.

British Ambassador to Moldova Fern Horine recently visited the Telenești orchard, emphasizing that expanding market access drives higher revenues for farmers and stimulates broader economic growth.

She noted that international trade provides a vital economic lifeline for the Moldovan agricultural sector.

Since trade liberalization measures were expanded two years ago, Moldovan plum exports to the UK have increased 15-fold, apple exports have nearly quintupled, and grape shipments have almost tripled.
