Moldova faces an elevated risk of power outages today, August 6. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has urged citizens to drastically reduce electricity consumption, particularly during the critical 19:00 to 23:00 window.

Tofan warned that avoiding peak-hour usage for heavy household appliances—such as washing machines, electric ovens, and air conditioners—is vital.

*"By doing this, we can avoid high bills, because the emergency power we are purchasing is very expensive,"* he stated during a press briefing.

**Commercial lighting criticized**

The Prime Minister also directed his appeal at the business sector, demanding an immediate reduction in decorative and street lighting. He criticized the excessive nighttime illumination in the capital, Chișinău.

*"I was walking through Chișinău and it looked like a nightclub. We must show common sense,"* Tofan said. *"We need to turn off unnecessary lighting; I had the impression everything was lit up like Las Vegas."*

**Deficit exceeds previous days**

The head of the Executive confirmed that rolling blackouts remain a distinct possibility throughout the day. The energy system is expected to face its highest strain between 20:00 and 22:00.

While Tofan did not specify the exact volume of the energy shortfall, he noted the deficit is significantly larger than the one recorded on August 5.
