President Maia Sandu has signed a decree to hold a military parade celebrating the 35th anniversary of Moldova's independence. The event will take place on August 27 in Chisinau’s Great National Assembly Square, bringing together various national defense and law enforcement units.

The decision is part of the government-approved national program, *"Independence that unites us: Moldova-35."* The Ministry of Defense will oversee the military formations and lead the event, while the broader government is responsible for overall parade preparations.

The decree, officially signed on August 5, 2026, will take effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Moldova.

**Showcasing defense consolidation for peace**

President Sandu stated that the military parade will kick off the anniversary events and offer citizens a chance to see the concrete results of recent defense investments. She highlighted that much of this progress was achieved through foreign support and internal resources.

*"Peace is paramount, and the safety of our citizens is our primary concern,"* the head of state noted during a recent podcast appearance.

Dismissing interpretations that the parade is merely a show of force, the president emphasized its core purpose is transparency and reassurance. She noted that while Moldova has organized military parades in the past, the upcoming event will be significantly larger to reflect recent modernizations.

*"I believe it is important to show people what we are doing in the defense sector. It is an opportunity to demonstrate how we have consolidated our defense system to increase the chances of maintaining peace,"* Sandu explained.

Following the military parade, the festive program will conclude with a dedicated Independence Day concert. The president encouraged all citizens to participate in the public events scheduled for August 27.
