# French-led pipeline boosts Moldova water security

> Prolonged drought, unreliable sources, and restricted drinking water access continue to strain communities across the Republic of Moldova. In response, the construction of the Chișinău–Strășeni–Călărași main water pipeline has emerged as one of the country's most critical hydro-infrastructure investments.

Prolonged drought, unreliable sources, and restricted drinking water access continue to strain communities across the Republic of Moldova. In response, the construction of the Chișinău–Strășeni–Călărași main water pipeline has emerged as one of the country's most critical hydro-infrastructure investments.

The project is directed by Anthony Mauger, a French national who has lived in Moldova for over a decade. Fluent in Romanian, Mauger manages a workforce of 170 employees, maintaining a daily hands-on presence at the construction sites.

*"Ever since my school days, I wanted to work in water management,"* Mauger said. *"Water is a true treasure for us, though we often fail to realize it. We still do not protect or consume it responsibly."*

Mauger brought a century-old French engineering firm to Moldova to execute the project. Founded in 1918 to rebuild France's water distribution networks after World War I, the company is now applying its century of European expertise to the Moldovan grid.

Work on the construction site in Roșcani, located in the Strășeni district, has reached 80% completion. The project remains on track for completion by the end of this year. Once commissioned, the pipeline will deliver a safe, reliable supply of drinking water to all villages across the Strășeni and Călărași districts.
