# PAS faction drafted most bills, "Alternative" fewest, over nine days of plenary work in 2026

> During the first ordinary session of 2026, Parliament held 30 meetings that lasted over 220 hours—equivalent to more than nine consecutive days of work. During this session, deputies examined and adopted 177 normative acts, of which 35 were focused on aligning national legislation with European Union standards.

During the first ordinary session of 2026, Parliament held 30 meetings that lasted over 220 hours—equivalent to more than nine consecutive days of work. During this session, deputies examined and adopted 177 normative acts, of which 35 were focused on aligning national legislation with European Union standards.

Out of the total number of acts adopted, 69 aimed to amend and supplement existing legislation, 27 were framework laws, 26 acts pertained to the ratification of agreements, and five aimed at denouncing or withdrawing from certain agreements.

Data presented by the Legislature indicates that during the first ordinary session of 2026, a total of 291 legislative initiatives were registered in Parliament. Of these, 180 were submitted by deputies, 84 by the Government, 26 by the President of the Republic of Moldova, and one by the People's Assembly of Gagauzia.

Most of the draft laws were developed by the ruling party, while the "Alternative" bloc contributed the fewest. The breakdown of projects by faction is as follows:

- Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) faction: 83 projects
- Socialist Party (PSRM) faction: 27 projects
- Our Party faction: 18 projects
- Democracy at Home faction: 12 projects
- Communist Party (PCRM) faction: 9 projects
- Alternative faction: 5 projects

There are 12 standing committees within Parliament. The Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance presented the most reports, with a total of 111. This was followed by the Committee on Legal Affairs, Appointments and Immunities, which presented 59 reports, and the Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration, with 37 reports. The Committee on European Integration presented 56 reports.

The most working meetings took place within the Committee on Legal Affairs, Appointments and Immunities, and the Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance, each having 35 meetings. The Committee on European Integration met 27 times, while both the Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration and the Committee on the Environment, Climate, and Green Transition had 25 meetings each.

During the first ordinary session of 2026, Parliament established two committees of inquiry. The first committee is tasked with examining phone, financial, and digital scams and assessing the effectiveness of measures to prevent and combat them. This committee is headed by MP Lilian Carp. 

The second committee is the Commission of Inquiry for the Examination of the Activity of State-Owned Enterprises, headed by MP Dinu Plîngău.

According to parliamentary regulations, Parliament meets in two ordinary sessions each year. The first session begins in February and cannot extend beyond the end of July, while the second session starts in September and cannot exceed the end of December.

In addition to ordinary sessions, Parliament may convene in extraordinary or special sessions at the request of the President of the Republic of Moldova, the Speaker of Parliament, or a third of the deputies.

Furthermore, the leadership of Parliament has announced that deputies will meet for an extraordinary session at the end of August this year.
