Fuel prices in Moldova have reached new highs as low water levels on the Danube River continue to disrupt river transport, forcing importers to shift to overland routes.

For Thursday, August 20, the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) set the maximum price for gasoline at €1.55 (30.37 MDL) per liter, reflecting an increase of 0.25 MDL. Diesel prices have also climbed, rising by 0.39 MDL to hit a peak of €1.65 (32.37 MDL) per liter.

**Logistical bottlenecks force shift to land transit**

Extremely low water levels on the Danube have hindered river navigation, limiting fuel delivery by barge. To compensate, importers are increasing cargo volumes transported by road, primarily through the Leușeni customs border crossing with Romania.

**Critical diesel reserves put pressure on market**

Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu reported that national gasoline reserves are sufficient for 15 days. However, diesel stocks have fallen to a critical supply window of just 5 to 6 days.

Currently, 48 gas stations across the country are completely out of diesel, though this marks a slight improvement from Tuesday, when 58 stations lacked supply. Authorities assured the public that national fuel supplies are being actively monitored to prevent wider disruptions.
