Romanian actor and director Valeriu Andriuță, originally from the Republic of Moldova, will be honored in the FOCUS section of the 12th edition of the Romanian Film Days in Chișinău. The festival is scheduled to take place from September 17 to September 20, 2026, at Cineplex Loteanu and Cinema Odeon, with free public access. The event will kick off with the first screening in the Republic of Moldova of the feature film "The Circle" which was written and directed by Valeriu Andriuță.

"The Circle," a Romanian-Moldovan co-production filmed entirely in the Republic of Moldova, was released in June 2026 as part of the Romanian competition at the Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) in Cluj-Napoca, where it received a Special Jury Mention, according to a press release from the event organizers.

The screening at Cineplex Loteanu will also feature a question and answer session with producer Iulia Andriuță and some members of the film's crew, including Valeriu Andriuță. The cast of the feature film includes Victor Nofit, Vanessa Andriuță, Ion Munteanu, Anatol Cotrobai, Silviu Boinceanu, and Eugeniu Prisăcari.

Valeriu Andriuță studied acting at the "Şota Rustaveli" National University of Theater and Film in Tbilisi and theater directing at the Bucharest Academy of Theater and Film, currently known as UNATC "I.L. Caragiale." Throughout his acting career, he has collaborated with notable Romanian directors such as Cristian Mungiu, Bogdan George Apetri, Igor Cobileanski, Marian Crișan, Emanuel Pârvu, Daniel Sandu, and Florin Șerban, as well as with various foreign filmmakers.

Andriuță made his film directing debut in 2017 with the short film “Chers amis” followed by “Salix Caprea,” “Cu unul în plus,” and “Eu sunt Dorin.” He writes his films himself and has also served as producer for some of his short films.

As part of a dedicated section to Valeriu Andriuță, two feature films from his acting filmography will be screened at Cinema Odeon: “După dealuri” directed by Cristian Mungiu in 2012, and “Dragoste 1. Câine” directed by Florin Șerban in 2018.

“După dealuri” won two awards at the Cannes Film Festival for Best Screenplay and Best Actress, the latter awarded ex aequo to Cristina Flutur and Cosmina Stratan. Meanwhile, “Dragoste 1. Câine” received accolades at the Sarajevo Film Festival, including the CICAE Award and the Cineuropa Award. Valeriu Andriuță will participate in the question and answer sessions following both screenings.

Additionally, the actor and director will present a group of five short films specifically for students of the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts in Chișinău. Two of these films, “Voilà” (1999) and “Cadoul” (2015), both directed by Dumitru Grosei, feature Andriuță in the lead role. The other three—“Chers amis”, “Salix Caprea” and “Eu sunt Dorin”—are directed by him.

Organizers believe this program will provide students with a glimpse into the evolution of Andriuță’s career over two decades.

The full program of the festival is yet to be announced. Organizers have indicated that they will soon present sections called “New Films”, “Retro”, “Films for Children and Family”, “Masterclass” and “Book Launch.”

This year, the Romanian Film Days will continue their tradition of reaching several localities in the Republic of Moldova. In addition to Chișinău, screenings are scheduled in Hâncești on September 17, Nisporeni on September 18, Călărași on September 19, Strășeni on September 20, Cimișlia on September 23, Ungheni on September 24, Florești on September 25, Sângerei on September 26, and Bălți on September 26 and 27, with additional screenings in Cahul on October 9 and 10.

The Romanian Film Days in Chișinău are organized by the Association of Independent Filmmakers of the Republic of Moldova “Alternative Cinema” and the production house “Rova Film” from Romania.

The 12th edition is financed by the National Center of Cinematography of Moldova, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” in Chișinău, the National Center of Cinematography of Romania, and the Union of Filmmakers of Romania.
