# Moldova expands starter bonuses for vocational and university teachers

> The Government of Moldova approved a measure on August 26 to extend its early-career bonus scheme to graduates entering vocational schools, colleges, and universities. Previously, these state-backed signing allowances were available exclusively to primary and secondary school teachers.

The Government of Moldova approved a measure on August 26 to extend its early-career bonus scheme to graduates entering vocational schools, colleges, and universities. Previously, these state-backed signing allowances were available exclusively to primary and secondary school teachers.

Under the updated policy, career starter allowances will range from €8,160 (approx. 160,000 MDL) to €19,130 (approx. 375,000 MDL). The highest payouts will go to educators specializing in biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, and mathematics who take up posts outside the capital, Chișinău.

**Incentives for research and higher education**

Graduates joining universities and research institutions will receive a targeted allowance of €10,200 (approx. 200,000 MDL). The state will disburse the funds in two equal stages: the first half after six months of active teaching, and the remainder after 18 months.

*"These initial financial incentives aim to encourage young specialists to enter the teaching profession,"* Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun said. *"Through this measure, we hope to rejuvenate our academic and research staff across the country."*

**Eligibility and selection criteria**

The program is open to early-career professionals up to 35 years old who hold technical vocational, bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degrees, including qualifications obtained abroad.

The Ministry of Education and Research manages the annual institutional placements. To qualify, applicants must hold a cumulative grade point average of at least 7.5 and pass a competitive selection interview.
