# Minor magnitude 3.2 earthquake shakes Romania's Vrancea region

A magnitude 3.2 earthquake struck Romania's seismically active Vrancea region early on Monday, August 31, causing no reported damage or casualties, seismologists said.

The tremor occurred at 4:01 a.m. local time in Buzău County at an intermediate depth of 115.5 kilometers, according to the National Institute for Earth Physics (INCDFP).

**Epicenter and regional reach**

Seismologists located the epicenter approximately 49 kilometers northwest of Buzău, 55 kilometers west of Focșani, 67 kilometers southeast of Sfântu Gheorghe, 72 kilometers east of Brașov, and 75 kilometers northeast of Ploiești.

*“No damage or casualties have been recorded following the tremor,”* emergency authorities reported.

The Vrancea seismic zone remains Romania's most active earthquake area. Intermediate-depth events originating in the cluster can be felt across a broad radius, occasionally reaching neighboring Moldova and parts of the wider region.

**Seismic context**

The event was the eighth earthquake recorded across Romania during the month of August, with all recent tremors remaining below magnitude 4.5.

Romania's strongest tremor of the year occurred on February 14 in southwestern Gorj County, when a shallow magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck at a depth of 6.3 kilometers.
