# Moldova seizes €480k municipal land from corrupt cadastre official

> Moldovan courts ordered the definitive confiscation of eight real estate assets valued at €480,000 (approx. 9.6 million MDL) from a former cadastre official convicted of unlawfully registering municipal land, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Moldovan courts ordered the definitive confiscation of eight real estate assets valued at €480,000 (approx. 9.6 million MDL) from a former cadastre official convicted of unlawfully registering municipal land, prosecutors said Wednesday.

**Land scheme unmasked through parallel financial probes**

The confiscated holdings encompass development land plots, residential houses, and an unfinished building situated across the capital. Between 2011 and 2022, the former functionary abused his office to fraudulently alienate and register Chișinău municipal property in the names of nominee strawmen, masking his role as the true beneficial owner.

Investigators from the National Anti-Corruption Centre (CNA) and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office untangled the illicit ownership structure in tandem with the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (ARBI), which ran parallel financial investigations to map the suspect's hidden wealth.

The special confiscation ruling was upheld on appeal by the Chișinău Court of Appeal, making the seizure irrevocable. 

*“This case represents a major jurisprudential precedent in asset recovery for the Republic of Moldova,”* the CNA said in an official briefing.
