The Union of Lawyers of the Republic of Moldova has launched a digital platform called ilaw.md. This tool connects citizens directly with verified lawyers. The application lets clients submit legal requests for free and receive offers from specialists based on their expertise and location.

The concept for this platform originated from a market study that highlighted the significant challenges people encounter when searching for a legal professional.

Currently, many individuals post their legal issues on social media, exposing them to potential scams and risking the compromise of sensitive personal information. Additionally, traditional internet searches often yield unreliable results, with over 60% of lawyers' websites being either non-functional or outdated.

Moreover, neither the Bar Association nor the Ministry of Justice has the legal authority to provide direct recommendations, leaving citizens without clear standards for evaluating the expertise or fees of legal professionals.

The new platform aims to remove these obstacles and create a secure digital environment for users.

The process is straightforward: users submit a request detailing their urgency, location, and the area of law they need assistance with, choosing from a list of over 20 categories, including civil law and immigration legislation.

An intelligent algorithm directs client requests to the appropriate legal professionals, who then submit personalized offers. Once the client compares the options and accepts an offer, the system unlocks contact details and notifies both parties via SMS and email so they can proceed with the engagement.

iLaw guarantees that only individuals officially recognized as lawyers or trainee lawyers—rather than general legal practitioners—are registered on the platform. Upon registration, each professional must upload their license and professional ID for administrator verification, ensuring clients work with professionals subject to legal and disciplinary accountability.

Lawyers can also showcase their academic titles, distinctions, and completed courses on their profiles, promoting fair and transparent competition.

The application covers all districts of the Republic of Moldova, as well as the diaspora, allowing lawyers to select specific geographic areas in which they wish to practice.

Citizens can use the platform free of charge, while law firms and individual practices receive a three-month free trial.

Project representatives emphasized that iLaw operates on a subscription basis and does not charge any commission on the fees agreed upon between the lawyer and the client, ensuring the preservation of professional confidentiality.
