# ANRE director: The tariff for natural gas could be revised

> The natural gas tariff could be revised if international market purchase prices remain at current levels. Constantin Borosan, Director of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), stated that the agency is closely monitoring developments after the spot price for gas rose to approximately 82 euros per megawatt-hour. By comparison, an average purchase price of around 54 euros was factored in when setting the tariff for the August–December period.

The natural gas tariff could be revised if international market purchase prices remain at current levels. Constantin Borosan, Director of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), stated that the agency is closely monitoring developments after the spot price for gas rose to approximately 82 euros per megawatt-hour. By comparison, an average purchase price of around 54 euros was factored in when setting the tariff for the August–December period.

According to Borosan, these developments are influenced, among other factors, by the escalating situation in the Middle East, which affects the available supply of energy resources and the international trade routes used to transport them to Europe and other high-consumption regions.

*"We are currently observing spot market activity. Indeed, this morning the price was around 82 euros per megawatt-hour. Consequently, if this trend persists, the law on gas and the tariff methodology clearly stipulate that the license holder—the natural gas supplier—must perform the necessary calculations and submit a request to the agency. We are monitoring whether this trend continues,"* Borosan stated.

As of September 1, 2026, household consumers in the Republic of Moldova are paying a tariff of 20.03 lei per cubic meter of natural gas, VAT included. This increase, approved by ANRE in August, represents a rise of nearly six lei compared to the previous price of 14.42 lei per cubic meter.

ANRE justified its decision by citing rising procurement costs on international markets and the need to cover Energocom's financial variances. The first bills calculated based on the new, higher tariff are scheduled to be issued to consumers in October.
