# Romania is part of Zelenskyy’s new regional initiative

> Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy launched a new regional initiative on Friday, September 18, in Ivano-Frankivsk, involving eight Central and Eastern European states, including Romania, at a summit aimed at promoting cooperation in the areas of trade and security, Agerpres reports.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy launched a new regional initiative on Friday, September 18, in Ivano-Frankivsk, involving eight Central and Eastern European states, including Romania, at a summit aimed at promoting cooperation in the areas of trade and security, Agerpres reports.

At the inaugural Summit of the “Carpathian 8” Initiative for Carpathian Integration, representatives of Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary and the European Union are participating.

During the meeting, Zelensky thanked his regional allies for maintaining trade and transport links following the launch of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Among others, Romanian President Nicușor Dan and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, as well as Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, are participating in the inaugural event.

*“This marks the start of a movement that should bring our countries closer together and create another strong framework for cooperation at the EU level”*, the Ukrainian head of state wrote on Telegram, mentioning the expansion of cooperation in the energy and logistics sectors, cross-border trade and security.

*“Naturally, security issues are a priority now and in the years to come”*, Volodymyr Zelensky said in his speech.

Representatives of around 550 companies were invited to the event, which will conclude on Sunday, with trade and investment agreements worth 1 billion euros expected to be signed, Zelensky added.
