Support for the country’s European path and the expansion of economic cooperation were also on the agenda of the discussions held on Tuesday, September 22, in Chișinău, by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Doina Gherman and Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security of the Czech Senate, Pavel Fischer. Officials addressed the measures needed to strengthen the energy resilience of the Republic of Moldova, in the context of the energy and hydrological crisis during a joint meeting of the foreign policy and security committees of the two parliaments. The Parliament in Chișinău is to be convened in an extraordinary session to declare a state of emergency in these sectors for a period of 60 days, Doina Gherman announced at a press conference held alongside Pavel Fischer. In this context, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament requested support from the Czech authorities for developing renewable energy generation capacities and storage infrastructure, as well as for expertise in managing energy resources. *„We greatly appreciate the Czech financial support provided previously. Through the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund, the Czech Republic provided 415,000 euros in 2025, and since 2022, with the start of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, the contribution has exceeded 16 million lei. This is assistance that reached directly the people who were affected by increases in energy prices”*, Doina Gherman stated. ![](https://storage.moldova1.md/images/cfe8cb69-d126-4d8d-b045-76e0268c5e86.jpg) **Support for the European path** The European integration of the Republic of Moldova was another central topic of the discussions. Officials emphasized the importance of continuing the accession negotiations, given that the authorities in Chișinău have set themselves the goal of completing this process by the end of 2028. Pavel Fischer reaffirmed the support of the Czech Senate for the European path of the Republic of Moldova and referred to the resolution adopted in August, through which the Parliament in Prague supports the country's integration into the European space and condemns external interference. *„We are pleased to see that the European future of the Republic of Moldova enjoys such massive support. We support the opening of the next negotiating chapters, a step that would be best achieved by the end of this year, and we will continue to effectively support the Republic of Moldova during this complicated period”*, Pavel Fischer stated. The Czech official also declared that the presence of the Czech Senate delegation in Chișinău sends a clear message that the Republic of Moldova is not alone in facing the current challenges. At the same time, Pavel Fischer mentioned that he is available to discuss with the Government in Prague the identification of new ways to support the Republic of Moldova, including in the context of the state of emergency. ![](https://storage.moldova1.md/images/3049035a-7135-4e9b-b856-ad32728aa8af.jpg) **Over 10.5 million euros for projects in the Republic of Moldova** The Republic of Moldova remains a priority destination for development assistance provided by Czechia until 2030. During 2023–2025, projects carried out with Czech support in the Republic of Moldova amounted to over 10.5 million euros. Currently, approximately 45 companies with Czech capital operate on the Moldovan market, while bilateral cooperation could be expanded in areas such as agriculture, infrastructure, information technology and social development. ![](https://storage.moldova1.md/images/7518a147-6194-47a0-89df-6e22c0c14f2b.jpg) *** We recall that a delegation of the Senate of the Czech Republic, including members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security, is visiting the Republic of Moldova from 21–23 September. The official programme includes meetings with President Maia Sandu, President of Parliament Igor Grosu, and Deputy Speaker Doina Gherman, alongside officials from the defence and foreign policy sectors. The discussions focus on the bilateral partnership, regional security challenges, and advancing the European path of the Republic of Moldova.
