# Ecaterina Cheptanaru appointed new director of Public Broadcaster “Teleradio-Moldova”

> Journalist and TV producer Ecaterina Cheptanaru won the competition for the position of director of the “Teleradio-Moldova” Company (TRM), held on September 22. Ecaterina Cheptanaru has more than ten years of experience in the media and previously held the position of deputy general director of the institution.

Journalist and TV producer Ecaterina Cheptanaru won the competition for the position of director of the “Teleradio-Moldova” Company (TRM), held on September 22. Ecaterina Cheptanaru has more than ten years of experience in the media and previously held the position of deputy general director of the institution.

The Supervisory Board (SB) of TRM had to choose between three candidates after Andrei Zapșa withdrew from the competition on the morning of September 22.

Ecaterina Cheptanaru received the highest score awarded by the SB members—8.76—with Dorin Scobioală in second place with 6.94 points. 

The third candidate, Sergiu Sandulescu, was awarded 5.88 points.

According to the Regulation on the organization and conduct of the competition for selecting the candidate for the position of general director of the IP Company „Teleradio-Moldova”, the winner is declared to be the candidate who receives the highest score from the SB members, but not less than 7.

**Cheptanaru headed Moldova 1**

Ecaterina Cheptanaru holds a degree in political science and a master's degree in International Relations and Institutional Communication. She also completed a Media Management training program at the School of Journalism of Moldova.

The new director of TRM began her professional career in 2011, as a specialist within the government commission for developing youth policies, and in 2012 she became the host of the „*Omul de lângă*” program at TRM.

Between 2014–2015, she worked at Canal Regional as the host of the „*Moldova-Europa*” program. Subsequently, between 2017 and 2019, she headed the Central Studio of Canal Regional, where she managed a network of 15 local TV stations. 

For 11 years, she was the author of the TV project „*Punți către Europa*”, broadcast by Realitatea TV.

In 2025, Ecaterina Cheptanaru served for three months as deputy general director of TRM, responsible for television.

We remind you that four candidates had been admitted to the interview stage: Dorin Scobioală, Ecaterina Cheptanaru, Sergiu Sandulescu and Andrei Zapșa. However, the procedure was postponed in July, after the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) requested additional checks of the candidates.

Subsequently, in August, the SIS informed the members of the Supervisory Council about the existence of certain „*risk factors*” in the case of two of the candidates, namely Sergiu Sandulescu and Andrei Zapșa. For example, Sandulescu was accused of having ties to the group led by convicted criminal Ilan Șor, allegations he denied.

At the meeting on September 2, the SC heard the explanations of the two candidates and decided to readmit them to the final stage of the competition.

The position became vacant after the director general of TRM, Vlad Țurcanu, who had been appointed to the position in December 2021, announced his resignation on May 18, 2026, during a press conference held two days after the Eurovision final. The decision came amid a wave of criticism regarding the scores awarded by the national jury – whose composition was determined by TRM – at this music competition.

Throughout this time, Vlad Țurcanu served as acting director of TRM.

With his departure from the leadership of TRM, deputy general directors Andrei Zapșa and Cornel Ciobanu will also cease their activities.

The director general of the Public Broadcaster „Teleradio-Moldova” is appointed by the Supervisory Council for a seven-year term, which cannot be renewed.
