# Moldovan entrepreneurs are supported in expanding internationally

> Entrepreneurs in the Republic of Moldova seeking to enter international markets benefit from support through the "Export Accelerator" program, launched this summer. The initiative—implemented by the Organisation for Entrepreneurship Development and the World Bank’s Competitiveness Enhancement Project Implementation Unit—offers small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) export potential assessments, personalised development plans, training and consultancy from international experts, and opportunities to identify foreign partners and buyers.

Entrepreneurs in the Republic of Moldova seeking to enter international markets benefit from support through the "Export Accelerator" program, launched this summer. The initiative—implemented by the Organisation for Entrepreneurship Development and the World Bank’s Competitiveness Enhancement Project Implementation Unit—offers small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) export potential assessments, personalised development plans, training and consultancy from international experts, and opportunities to identify foreign partners and buyers.

The program aims to support up to 250 SMEs in the Republic of Moldova that have export potential. Aureliu Casian, Executive Director of the World Bank’s Competitiveness Enhancement Project Implementation Unit, notes that entrepreneurs benefit from—among other things—international expertise at no cost.

*"We are talking about practical activities delivered by a joint team comprising consultants from the Netherlands and their colleagues from the Republic of Moldova—a consolidated team. They can benefit from expertise, including international expertise, free of charge,"* stated Aureliu Casian.

Among the companies enrolled in the program is an agricultural machinery manufacturer based in Chișinău. The company’s manager, Alexei Donțu, states that while the firm previously exported to CIS countries, it currently supplies only the domestic market.

The company aims to increase production volumes and expand its presence in foreign markets, including the European Union and the United States. The entrepreneur believes that understanding legislation and complying with certification standards are essential to this process.

*"We want to enter the markets of the European Union, the USA, and other countries. I consider legislation and certifications to be crucial aspects of exporting. Furthermore, with the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union, meeting European requirements will become vital, as you cannot promote your products without them,"* said Alexei Donțu.

Entrepreneur Vitalie Popa is also participating in the "Export Accelerator" to expand his business and the geographical reach of his deliveries. The beekeeping business he manages has exported honey to Italy since 2014 and has also tried to enter other markets.

Participating in the program will help him find answers to practical questions about market entry and strengthen his ability to withstand international competition.

"We have been exporting steadily to the European Union—specifically to Italy—since 2014, though we have also made attempts to enter other markets. This export accelerator course gives us the advantage of having answers ready when we come face-to-face with competitors, while also helping us find ways to emerge successfully from any situation," noted Vitalie Popa.

According to the organizers, by transferring expertise and building a network of local specialists in export development, the program aims to strengthen national mechanisms for supporting business internationalization in the long term. The initiative is also designed to boost the competitiveness of Moldovan companies and facilitate their access to foreign markets.
