# Fire hits key Starlink hub in Poland aiding Ukraine

A fire broke out at a crucial Starlink ground station in central Poland on Tuesday evening, hitting a key hub that provides critical connectivity to Ukraine, Polish officials said.

Systems remain operational despite the incident, Polish Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski confirmed, noting that emergency technical measures were deployed immediately to preserve network stability across the region.

**Suspected arson under investigation**

Polish authorities have placed security and counter-sabotage agencies on heightened alert since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. 

*“The fire engulfed the power unit and the generator. It is clear that this act of sabotage was deliberately intended to disable the station, effectively cutting the connection and disrupting internet access for various institutions, including the Ukrainian military,”* Gawkowski said.

He noted that although early findings point toward deliberate arson, technical teams and law enforcement are still working to establish responsibility and potential motives.

**Hybrid warfare concerns**

*“Given the serious and substantiated suspicions that this incident involved intentional arson, we are trying to determine who is responsible and what the motives were,”* Gawkowski said. *“This is essential to determine whether it was an act of vandalism, another form of unlawful conduct, or whether, at this stage, we can speak of an act of sabotage.”*

Gawkowski noted that while direct Russian responsibility has not yet been formally established, multiple indicators suggest the attack fits into Moscow's broader hybrid warfare doctrine. 

Russia has consistently denied involvement in sabotage operations across European countries.
