# US Ambassador Joseph Mark Burkhalter presented credentials to President Maia Sandu

Strengthening regional security, expanding economic opportunities and deepening the Moldovan-American strategic partnership are the main priorities of the new United States ambassador to Chisinau, Joseph Mark Burkhalter. On September 30, the diplomat presented his credentials to President Maia Sandu during an official ceremony organised at the Presidency.

At the event, the American diplomat expressed his commitment to strengthen the strategic partnership and friendly relations between the two states.

The United States of America remains one of the Republic of Moldova's most important strategic and development partners, providing consistent support for democratic reforms, energy security, and the country's economic development.

Joseph Mark Burkhalter arrived in Chisinau on September 25 with his wife. In a message sent at that time, the diplomat stated that he wants to get to know the Republic of Moldova better and contribute to the development of bilateral relations.

In the last days, the diplomat visited several symbolic places in the capital and managed to get to a football match, supporting the national team of the Republic of Moldova.

Originally from Georgia, Joseph Mark Burkhalter was confirmed by the United States Senate as ambassador to the Republic of Moldova at the beginning of August, after being nominated by the American administration.

The last American ambassador with a full mandate in Chisinau was Kent D. Logsdon, who served from December 2021 until the end of May 2024. At the end of the mission, he was decorated by President Maia Sandu with the "*Order of Honor*" for his contribution to the deepening of relations between the Republic of Moldova and the United States.

Since August 2025, the US Embassy in Chisinau has been headed by Nick Pietrowicz as Chargé d'Affaires.
