# CFM is testing the Chișinău – Revaca – Sângera railway route to improve airport access

> On October 16, the State Enterprise "Moldova Railways" (CFM) conducted a test run along the Chișinău – Revaca – Sângera railway line to assess the condition of the infrastructure and identify the measures necessary to ensure safe train operations. The inspections also assessed the potential to increase travel speeds and develop passenger platforms.

The testing was conducted in the context of launching a pilot connection that allows passengers to travel from the Chișinău Railway Station to the airport via the Revaca station, with a free coach transfer to the terminal.

According to the CFM (Moldovan Railways), the test run was conducted using a modernized diesel train, prepared by specialists from the Chișinău Depot.

"During the journey, specialists examined sections of the railway track to identify possibilities for increasing train speeds," the company's representatives stated.

Another objective of the assessment was to identify the work required to set up passenger platforms and improve the infrastructure along the route. These interventions are essential for ensuring proper boarding and alighting conditions, should passenger train services be expanded along this route.

"The test run is part of the process of evaluating the technical condition of the railway infrastructure and identifying the measures necessary to organize services on the new route, in strict compliance with safety requirements," the institution's statement reads.

For now, the company has not specified when regular passenger train services might begin on the new route, nor has it detailed what specific work will follow the assessment.

**Airport rail link tested as a pilot project**

The development of a rail connection via Revaca is part of a pilot project launched to facilitate passenger access to the "Eugen Doga" International Airport in Chișinău.

According to information provided by the airport administration, passengers can board a train at the Chișinău Railway Station and disembark at the Revaca stop, located in the town of Sângera. From there, a shuttle bus—provided free of charge by the airport—transports them to the terminal in approximately five minutes.

Under the announced schedule, the train departs from the Chișinău Railway Station and arrives at Revaca around 10:20 AM. The train journey takes an estimated seven to ten minutes, followed by a five-minute shuttle bus transfer.

At the end of October, airport authorities will review how many passengers use this service to determine whether it meets a genuine transport need. To improve waiting conditions, a shaded area—featuring 11 pergolas—is being set up at the passenger pickup point.

The Revaca station was primarily used for freight transport; the return of passenger trains to the area marks the resumption of a service suspended for four years, according to information provided at the project's launch.

The initiative aims to reduce travel time between the city center and the airport, at a time when demand for air travel is on the rise. Authorities noted that a significant portion of the airport's passengers—approximately 30%—are Ukrainian citizens.

**CFM announces continued modernization efforts**

In addition to evaluating the Chișinău – Revaca – Sângera route, CFM states that it is focused on developing passenger transport and making more efficient use of available infrastructure and rolling stock.

"Moldova’s Railway (CFM) continues its efforts to develop passenger transport, improve service quality, and make more efficient use of available technical and infrastructural resources," the statement adds.
