Over 1,200 young people will be inducted into the National Army between October 2026 and January 2027, according to a decision approved by the Government on Wednesday, October 21. The document sets recruitment quotas for each district and municipality in the country; most will serve the standard term, while 10 individuals will serve a shortened term.

The conscription process will take place in several stages, according to a schedule developed and approved by the Ministry of Defense.

Minister Anatolie Nosatîi said this is a routine procedure carried out twice a year.

"The conscription process is a standard activity conducted by the National Army every year—specifically during the periods of April–July and, concurrently, October–January," the Minister stated during a Government meeting.

**Largest number of recruits from Chișinău**

According to the document, 167 recruits will be enlisted for mandatory military service from the municipality of Chișinău, and 43 from the municipality of Bălți.

Fifty-three recruits each will come from the Cahul and Hâncești districts, 47 from Ungheni, and 46 from the Gagauz autonomy. Another 43 slots are allocated to the Orhei district, 40 to the Căușeni district, and 36 to the Strășeni district.

The smallest contingents are assigned to the Basarabeasca district (nine recruits), Dubăsari (11), and Ocnița (12).

Separately, one recruit for a shortened term of military service is allocated to each of the following: Chișinău, Bălți, Cahul, Căușeni, Edineț, Hâncești, Orhei, Soroca, Ungheni, and Gagauzia.

These figures represent the limits established for the current campaign. The Ministry of Defence is authorised to redistribute the number of recruits among military centres—without the need for a new Government resolution—in order to fulfil the nationally mandated quota.

**Medical examination and organization of conscription**

Local public authorities will organize conscription in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense and military centers. They will also determine how many recruits each local administration must provide.

Prior to conscription, recruits will undergo medical examinations and military-medical assessments, conducted by specialized commissions. For this purpose, local authorities will coordinate with the Ministry of Health and military centers.

The transport of recruits to recruitment and conscription commissions, as well as to military administrative bodies, will be funded by the budgets of the local authorities. Transport to military units will be covered by the Ministry of Defense’s budget.

Concurrently with the new conscription campaign, service members who have completed their term of military service will be transferred to the reserve.

According to the explanatory memorandum for the draft, the campaign aims to replenish the National Army's ranks and ensure the continuity of military training. The Ministry of Defense clarifies that the conscription procedure remains unchanged; only the number of recruits has been adjusted.

Expenses will be covered from the already approved budgets of the Ministry of Defense and local authorities, with no additional allocations required from the state budget.
