Moldova’s Party of Socialists reported the highest campaign income for Gagauzia’s November 15 elections, declaring €9,900 (approximately 200,000 MDL) for the regional assembly race and €14,900 (approximately 300,000 MDL) for governor.

**Electoral authorities review campaign finances**

The figures were presented during the first review of campaign financing for the November 15 elections. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) also warned two political parties over delays in submitting requested information.

CEC Vice-President Pavel Postica said at a meeting on October 23 that the commission was overseeing campaign income and expenditure in regional elections for the first time.

*“I would like to point out that this is the first financial management report submitted by electoral contestants and political parties in this election. In fact, this is the first time the Central Electoral Commission has adopted decisions on monitoring income and expenditure in regional elections,”* Postica said.

Four political groups submitted campaign finance reports for elections to the People's Assembly of Gagauzia: the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), the For the Country Political Party, the Gagauz People's Party and the Moldoveni Alliance.

PSRM declared €9,900 in funds from its own resources and in-kind donations valued at 947 MDL. Its reported expenditure exceeded €8,000. The party also listed 667 volunteers, whose work was valued at approximately 5,800 MDL.

The Moldoveni Alliance reported zero balances and listed 14 volunteers, whose work was valued at 5,400 MDL. The For the Country Political Party and the Gagauz People's Party submitted reports showing zero values.

**PSRM declares €14,900 for governor's race**

The CEC separately reviewed campaign finance reports for the election of Gagauzia's Governor, known locally as the Bashkan.

PSRM declared €14,900 in funding from its own resources and expenditure of approximately €12,700. Its remaining balance at the end of the reporting period exceeded €2,000. The party also reported 29 volunteers, whose work was valued at 5,800 MDL.

The Gagauz People's Party and the New Historical Option Political Party reported no income or expenditure during the period under review.

**Two parties penalised over reporting delays**

At the same meeting, the CEC issued a warning to the Gagauz People's Party for failing to notify the electoral authority on time that it had opened a campaign account.

The party was registered as an electoral contestant on October 7 and was required to notify the CEC by October 10. It did so on October 13. After a further delay, the initial notice was replaced with a formal warning.

The party's treasurer, Tatiana Dudoglo, joined the meeting online and attributed the delays to technical problems. She assured the commission that future deadlines would be met.

The New Historical Option Political Party was also cautioned for submitting the requested information late.

**Eight candidates contest the governor's post**

Residents of Gagauzia will vote on November 15 to elect their governor and members of the People's Assembly. Eight candidates are running for governor: Fiodor Gagauz, Alexandr Stoianglo, Cornel Dudnic, Ivan Kîlcic, Petru Vlah, Ivanna Koksal, Serghei Anastasov and Oleg Garizan.

A total of 135 candidates are contesting seats in the People's Assembly. Political parties nominated 42 candidates, while 93 are running as independents.

Voting will take place at 67 polling stations. According to the State Register of Voters, 129,243 eligible voters were registered in Gagauzia as of September 9. The election campaign began on October 16.
