The Kremlin is prepared to resume trilateral discussions with Ukraine and the United States (US) after November 4, when Russia celebrates National Unity Day. Yuri Ushakov, foreign policy advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin, announced this on Sunday, October 25, speaking to the state-controlled news channel "Vesti".

The statement follows remarks by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on October 23, who said a new round of trilateral talks is expected in the first half of November, with Abu Dhabi as a possible venue.

"The next deadline is now November 4, our main holiday. After that, we will be ready to resume negotiations," said Ushakov.

The Kremlin has repeatedly rejected ceasefire proposals, demanding instead that Kyiv cede the Donbas region—a strategically important area in eastern Ukraine that is only partially occupied.

Such a concession would grant Moscow territory that Russian forces have failed to capture on the battlefield.

Ukraine, by contrast, has accepted several ceasefire proposals from the United States.

Ushakov stated that he does not expect the first trilateral meeting following the hiatus to yield significant results, describing it instead as a "dress rehearsal." A peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine "still requires further effort," he added, as reported by news.ro.

On October 20, American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European partners, including Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. The following day, Witkoff held a three-hour meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg, after which the Kremlin stated that it was prepared to resume trilateral discussions in November.

On October 21, Witkoff stated that discussions between representatives of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia would continue at a technical level.
