Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi is paying a working visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands from October 28 to 29.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) schedule, Mihai Popșoi will meet with his Dutch counterpart, Tom Berendsen. He will also meet with the Speaker of the Dutch House of Representatives, Thom van Campen, as well as members of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Committee on European Affairs.

"Discussions will focus on Moldovan-Dutch cooperation, support for the Republic of Moldova’s European path, and the leveraging of economic and investment partnerships, including in the field of security" the MFA statement reads.

The visit’s agenda also includes discussions with experts from research and analysis institutes, specifically The Hague Institute for Geopolitics and The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies. Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi will appear on the program "Buitenhof" broadcast by the Dutch public television channel NPO 1, and will give an interview to the publication "Het Financieele Dagblad."

The Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of the Netherlands established diplomatic relations in July 1992. Over the years, cooperation between the two states has developed in areas such as political relations, trade, security, and the strengthening of democratic institutions.

The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, based in The Hague, was inaugurated in January 2014. Conversely, the opening of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Chișinău in April 2023 has contributed to deepening the bilateral dialogue.

The Kingdom of the Netherlands supports the Republic of Moldova’s European path. Cooperation between the two states also focuses on strengthening institutional resilience, cybersecurity, and developing economic relations. At the same time, both countries aim to expand investment opportunities and intensify political and economic contacts.

Mihai Popșoi’s visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands follows his visit to Cyprus, which took place from October 26–27. In Nicosia, the Moldovan foreign minister attended the inauguration of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova—headed by Ioannis Georgoulas—and held meetings with Cypriot officials. The discussions centered on bilateral relations, the Republic of Moldova’s European integration path, and opportunities for cooperation.
