The airspace of the Republic of Moldova has been violated 104 times since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in 2022. Of these incidents, 67 were recorded in the first ten months of 2026, including 19 in October. During that month, six drones exploded on impact with the ground, according to the Ministry of Defence.

According to the institution, the airspace violations in October occurred against the backdrop of the Russian Federation’s ongoing attacks on Ukraine, which have resulted in destruction and casualties among the civilian population, including children.

The 19 incidents in October were recorded in the Căușeni, Ștefan Vodă, Anenii Noi, Hâncești, Ocnița, Dondușeni, Telenești, Călărași, Ungheni, and Edineț districts, as well as in four localities within the Transnistrian region.

The most serious incidents took place on October 3, when five drones exploded upon impact with the ground—in the areas outside the town of Căușeni, and in the localities of Constantinovca (Căușeni district), Crocmaz (Ștefan Vodă district), Puhăceni (Anenii Noi district), and Dubovca (Hâncești district).

Another incident, involving the explosion of a drone, was recorded on October 16 near the village of Scăieni, Dondușeni district.

The final two drones entered the national airspace illegally on Saturday, October 31.

In this context, the Ministry of Defence emphasises the need to develop modern capabilities for the surveillance, detection, and neutralisation of aerial threats.

According to the institution, investments in the modernization of the National Army are essential for preventing incidents that could endanger the population and critical infrastructure.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Defence urges citizens to immediately notify the authorities by calling the single emergency number 112 if they discover drones or fragments thereof.

***

***What citizens should do if they discover drones or fragments thereof:***

- Do not approach drones that have fallen to the ground or any fragments thereof.

- Do not touch, move, or transport the discovered objects.

- Do not attempt to dismantle the drones or use any of their components.

- Move to a safe distance and warn others nearby.

- Immediately call 112 and report the location where the suspicious objects were observed.

- Do not approach the drones or their fragments to take photographs or record video.

- Follow the instructions provided by the authorities and do not return to the area until it has been declared safe.

Drones and their fragments may contain unexploded ordnance, electrical components, or damaged batteries, which pose a risk of explosion, fire, or electric shock.
