The European Parliament will today debate Austria's refusal to vote on Romania's accession to Schengen

The European Parliament is debating today Austria's refusal to vote on Romania's accession to Schengen. The proposal came from the three largest political groups in the European Parliament.

"This debate will show that the European Parliament is united in supporting our country's accession to the Schengen area and that the overwhelming majority of MEPs consider the decision to postpone Romania's entry into the free movement area incorrect," wrote liberal MEP Siegfried Mureșan on his Facebook page. The discussion will be chaired by the head of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. The head of the European Commission, Ursula Von Der Leyen, and the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, will be present at the debates. The initiative came from the three largest political groups in the European Parliament: the EPP Group, the Socialists and the RENEW Group.
