The acting general prosecutor asks the Parliament to lift the immunity of MP Marina Tauber

The Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Moldova requests Parliament to lift the immunity of MP Marina Tauber. The Speaker of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, announced the request signed by the acting Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu on Thursday at the beginning of the sitting.

The Public Prosecutor's Office requests the lifting of parliamentary immunity with a view to arrest and refer the criminal case against Marina Tauber, MP, to court for the offence of "knowingly accepting the financing of an electoral contestant from an organised criminal group in a prolonged form". The case concerns the new local elections for mayor of Balti municipality on 21 November 2021.

The second round of the new local elections for mayor of Balti was suspended after Marina Tauber was excluded from the electoral competition.

The decision of the Supreme Court of Justice was delivered on Sunday morning, 21 November, shortly before the voting process was supposed to start.

In the first round, held on 21 November, she received 47.93% of the vote. The next best was Nicolai Grigorishin (independent candidate) with 20.93%, followed by the ruling party's (PAS) candidate Boris Marcoci with 14.08%.
