Deadline for submission of applications for the post of Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child to the plenary of Parliament extended

The deadline for the submission to Parliament of applications for the post of Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child has been extended by 60 days. A draft resolution providing for this was voted by 59 MPs on Friday.

According to the Decision on the establishment of the Special Committee for the selection of candidates for the post of Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child, candidates were to be presented to the plenary of Parliament within 60 days. As this did not happen, the deadline was extended by another 60 days.

The Parliamentary Committee for the selection of candidates for the post of Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child was set up in March. It includes members of the Committee on Legal Affairs, Appointments and Immunities and the Committee on Human Rights and Inter-ethnic Relations. The term of office of the former Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child, Maia Bănărescu, who was appointed in 2016, expired in March.
