NATO will send 700 more troops to Kosovo. NATO Deputy General Secretary Mircea Geoană says such attacks are fully unacceptable

NATO will send 700 more troops to Kosovo. The statement was made by the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg. It comes after more than 30 members of the international peacekeeping force KFOR were injured in violent protests in Kosovo.

"KFOR, NATO forces will take all necessary measures to maintain a safe and secure environment for all citizens of Kosovo. And we will continue to act impartially in accordance with our UN mandate. We have decided to send 700 more soldiers from the Operational Reserve Force for the Western Balkans," NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said.

Meanwhile, Belgrade reported dozens of injuries among the protesters.

The Deputy General Secretary of NATO, Mircea Geoană, states that such attacks are totally unacceptable, and the violence must stop immediately.

We remind you that the situation in Kosovo became tense after ethnic Albanians became mayors in four municipalities in the north of the region. Citizens boycotted the elections, and turnout was only 3.5%. Moreover, the Serbs are demanding that the Kosovo government remove the new mayors and allow the local administrations, financed by Belgrade, to resume their work.
