Sergiu Litvinenco says the Republic of Moldova meets the recommendations of the European Commission in justice field
The Republic of Moldova fulfills the recommendations of the European Commission in justice field, said Minister Sergiu Litvinenco at the Forum for European Integration. According to him, in the next six months, new members of the CSM and CSJ will be elected, and the government has prepared a law on deoligarization.
In June, the Republic of Moldova obtained the status of a candidate country for accession, however the Commission made a list of nine recommendations, including the establishment of a functional Council of Magistracy and the reduction of the influence of oligarchs in the economy and politics. Minister Litvinenko estimates that by the summer of next year, the evaluation of the judges will be completed. Meanwhile, the Government prepared the recognition of the global Magnitsky act of the United States. "This is how we make it so that oligarchs no longer matter so much in these processes, and here we have this initiative in national legislation, international sanctions. It is also a deoligarization measure, along with the other things we are going to do," said the Minister of Justice, Sergiu Litvinenco. The commission also called for credible investigations into cases of grand corruption. "The prosecutors managed to finish cases and prosecutions like this, to send them to court, such as the ex-president of the country, the suspended general prosecutor, the former director of the SIS. We managed to send a very clear message to society that we will deal with big corruption, including the people who are at the highest levels, because the law applies equally to everyone", said the head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, Veronica Dragalin. "I will not expose myself to these cases, but at least in the files I have seen. Starting with what happened to Mr. Stoianoglo, because we have two files communicated to the ECtHR. And we'll see what the Court will say, but I very much hope that if there is a conviction, the politicians will take some responsibility and not say that the judges and prosecutors were guilty again", said lawyer Vadim Vieru. The European Commission should present a report on the progress of the Republic of Moldova, achieved by the end of the year.
