EU Partnership Mission in the Republic of Moldova was launched. Josep Borrell: In a complicated time, this is a strong political message
The launch of the European Union's partnership mission in the Republic of Moldova, in a complicated period of security, sends a strong political message and argues for the constant support of the EU bloc, including in the field of security, said the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy , Josep Borrell.
“This mission will also provide additional strategic and operational support to better prepare for future crises. Second, this mission will help build resilience to deal with hybrid threats, in particular, cyber security, countering foreign intelligence manipulation, which are a growing danger everywhere and is endangering our democracy. This will require the development of strategies and policies, the identification of capacity building needed for early warning, detection of threats and an effective response to them," said Josep Borrell.
The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that the Mission launched today in Chisinau will join 12 other EU civilian missions. According to the official, the mission is an innovative one based on three pillars, which, first of all, will contribute to strengthening the crisis management capacities of the security sector.
At the launch ceremony of the mission, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nicu Popescu, stated that the EU helped the Republic of Moldova to face Russia's attempts to destabilize the situation in our country.
"The launch of this mission takes place in a very complex regional context, marked by the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, but also the policies applied by the Russian Federation towards our state for 30 years, very hostile policies, policies aimed at destabilization, weakening to our state, policies that manifested themselves through the support for Transnistrian separatism, through the illegal maintenance of the Russian military presence on the left of the Nistru. And here is that, during these years, we all could see that these policies, attempts to destabilize and weaken the Republic of Moldova have failed, because our country wants to live in freedom", declared Nicu Popescu.
Minister of the Interior, Ana Revenco, claims that thanks to the new mission, the departmental capacity of the MAI (Ministry of the Interior) will increase.
"At the MAI level, we also see the mission as a strategic opportunity to transfer to the European institutions the lessons learned and the actions already undertaken by the Republic of Moldova in response to the multiple overlapping crises", said Ana Revenco.
