Volodymyr Zelensky, the first guest of the EPC Summit
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, arrived at the EPC Summit, the Ministry of the Interior announces. For the first time since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, the central figure of the Ukrainian resistance in the war of aggression launched by Russia, is in Chisinau. The Ukrainian president's visit was announced shortly before the summit for security reasons.
At today's summit in Bulboaca, the discussions will focus on energy stability and resilience, the sustainability of European states and joint efforts for peace. European aspirations, including the acquisition in 2022 by Moldova and Ukraine of candidate status for EU accession, contribute to the promotion of bilateral collaboration between our countries in several areas of common interest.
We remind that from the first days of the war, the Republic of Moldova condemned Russia's military aggression, reconfirming its support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. Also, Moldova provides humanitarian aid to Ukraine and provides assistance to a large number of Ukrainian refugees, temporarily located on the territory of our country. Since February 2022, over 1 million Ukrainians have crossed the border of the Republic of Moldova.
The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine have common interests in stabilizing regional security, strengthening integrated border management and bilateral cooperation. On the occasion of the organization of the 2023 EPC Summit, the national authorities have instituted protection and security measures at the international level, for the smooth running of the event, where officials of the European states and high representatives of the EU will be present.
