Chisinau hopes that the next pan-European summit will also discuss EU enlargement
The Republic of Moldova is ready to cooperate in any way with the Spanish authorities in order to organise the third edition of the European Political Community Summit, said Igor Zaharov, communication advisor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI), during the "Paralela 47" programme on Radio Moldova. Chisinau wants the topic of EU enlargement to be included in the agenda of the upcoming summit, Igor Zaharov stressed.
"We expect that we will participate in the work of the October summit in Granada. In this regard, we are cooperating with the Spanish authorities to see what issues are addressed in Granada and what will be the contribution of the Republic of Moldova to this summit. We hope that one of the issues addressed will be the enlargement of the European Union, especially that in the autumn we expect a decision from the European Union, in terms of recommending the opening of accession negotiations", said the MFAEI representative.
Igor Zaharov pointed out that the Political Community Europe Summits are held twice a year - once in an EU member country, then in a non-member country. The Republic of Moldova was the first non-member country to organise the pan-European summit. The next host countries are Spain and the U.K. The first Political Community Europe Summit was held in the Czech Republic.
