Sweden // Nicu Popescu, meeting with Tobias Billström: The Chisinau authorities aim to strengthen economic collaboration with Swedish partners

While on a working visit to Stockholm (Sweden), the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu had a meeting with his Swedish counterpart Tobias Billström. Popescu thanked the Swedish official for the support given to the Republic of Moldova, maintaining that the Chisinau authorities intend to strengthen economic collaboration with Swedish partners.

"Sweden has become a new market for our fruits and vegetables, and the first Moldovan apples are already on the shelves of Swedish stores. Also, Sweden is among the most important donors for our country, and we are confident that this collaboration will continue in the future", said Nicu Popescu.

Minister Nicu Popescu thanked his Swedish counterpart for the support given to the Republic of Moldova during Sweden's presidency of the Council of the European Union, which ends in June.

"At the end, I thanked my Swedish counterpart for the support given in organizing the second edition of the European Political Community Summit in the Republic of Moldova, which proved that we have all the necessary resources to boost the process of joining the European Union" , said the Moldovan official.

During the Swedish presidency, the Republic of Moldova sent its first contributions to the EU enlargement report. In this document, the achievements obtained in the implementation of the nine recommendations of the European Commission were reported.

"There was excellent cooperation with Sweden during this period, consulting us on most aspects of the European Commission's recommendations," said Popescu. The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, is making two working visits to Brussels, the Kingdom of Belgium and Stockholm, the Kingdom of Sweden, between June 6 and 8, in order to deepen the bilateral dialogue, to discuss the European agenda and to boost the accession process of our country to the EU.
