Turkey: Explosion occurred at a missile and explosives factory. Several workers lost their lives
An explosion has taken place at a missile and explosives factory of the Machinery and Chemicals Industry (MKE) in Ankara's Elmadağ district, state news agency Anadolu reports. The National Defense Ministry reported that five workers lost their lives, G4media reports.
According to initial reports, the explosion occurred in the factory after a fire in the morning. Some of the injured, who were transferred by ambulances to nearby hospitals, are reported to be in serious condition.
Relatives of the workers have gathered outside the factory. The region's chief prosecutor has announced a full investigation:
"The forensic dimension of the incident is being investigated in all aspects and the investigation is being carried out meticulously."
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç sent his condolences to the families of the five people killed in the explosion. Ankara Governor Vasip Șahin and Deputy Minister of National Defence Alpaslan Kavaklıoğlu also carried out inspections at the Missile and Explosives Factory.
