Maia Sandu discusses with SCM members: Justice must be cleaned of corrupt judges as soon as possible

The judiciary must be cleaned as soon as possible of the corrupt judges who compromise the image of the entire system and endanger the existence of the Republic of Moldova, said President Maia Sandu at the meeting with the members of the Supreme Council of Magistracy (SCM). The presidential institution says that the head of state was invited today to a discussion with the members of the CSM.

Maia Sandu also mentioned that concrete results are needed, especially convictions in cases of high corruption to stop corruption and to restore the sense of justice in society.

The President conveyed that a strong and independent judiciary is vital for the economic development of the country and ensuring the well-being of citizens.

"Very importantly, the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union depends to a large extent on the success of the justice reform and our ability to build a justice system that functions according to European standards. The Superior Council of Magistracy has an important role in this process", declared Maia Sandu.

The members of the CSM addressed several topics related to the operation of the institution, cooperation with other state institutions, but also problems of the judicial system.
