The 6th edition of the Days of Romanian Literature is held in Chisinau

Writers from both banks of the Prut have reunited in Chisinau, after two years of the pandemic, during the 6th edition of the Days of Romanian Literature. Until December 17, 20 events will take place: public readings, book launches, debates and autograph sessions.

"Romanian Literature Days happen whenever someone writes a valuable text, an inspired poem. For me, it is very important that Romanian authors know each other, the fact that they read each other, but the physical presence is very important", mentions the poet Emilian Galaicu-Păun.

"The public in Chisinau can get to know fresh, living writers from the Republic of Moldova and Romania in this way. Because a lot of people in the general public only read writers who are already dead. It's good to read the living ones as well", says the writer Paula Erizanu.

Readers of different ages showed interest in the event.

"We have the joy of meeting these writers here, at the bookstore, and at the museum, but let's also bring them to our "Spiru Haret" high school. It's a unique chance", says teacher Mariana Jitari.

"First of all, we are developing Romanian culture and the culture of reading," says student Mihai Țurcanu.

Pages from books were read. The writers also tackled current issues.

"We are not from the Republic of Moldova and Romania, we are the same literature, in fact. When you're writing in the same language, spaces don't really matter. We are together even if we have customs duties. We should try to be stronger on the other side of Europe where we don't really exist. It's a problem", said the writer Cristian Fulaș.

"I don't think we have weaker writers than the English, French, or Spanish ones. We have the theme, our universe, but the translations and then the promotion are missing", says the writer George C. Dumitru.

The series of events organized during the Days of Romanian Literature in Chisinau will culminate on Saturday, December 17, at the Artcore Center, with a poetry marathon.
