Ambassador: Moldova has 18 projects with the North Atlantic Alliance
The number of Moldova's projects with NATO, within the framework of the Programme for Strengthening the Defence Capability of the Republic of Moldova, has tripled - from 6 to 18, said in an interview for Radio Moldova, the head of Moldova's mission to NATO, our country's ambassador to Belgium, Viorel Cibotaru. According to the diplomat, the intensification of relations was influenced by the beginning of the Russian Federation's unjustified aggression in Ukraine and by the decisions taken at the NATO summit in June 2022.
"NATO asked the Republic of Moldova, if you need help, formulate. The Republic of Moldova, our institutions have formulated a number of needs related to the organization of the armed forces, the training of certain capabilities unrelated to the armed forces, but in one way or another are part of the Carabinieri for example is an absolutely new project that has emerged now. After examining this list, a political decision was taken and formulated by NATO - tailored support, i.e. extended support for the Republic of Moldova. In May 2022, there were six projects on paper, three real projects, now we have 18 projects," said Ambassador Viorel Ciubotaru.
All projects have a certain implementation period, from six months to six years.
At the same time, Viorel Cibotaru said that within the Resilience Project, a team has been formed to assist Moldova in the field of resilience. This is a new concept, developed by both NATO and the European Union, which has previously been very successful in the Ukraine-NATO relationship. Three large meetings were held as part of this activity, two in Chisinau and one in Bucharest. The Ambassador added that NATO is to develop a project paving the way for a hyper-project on resilience.
