Romanian Foreign Minister: Bilateral relations between our countries are stronger than ever
Bilateral relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova are stronger and more effective than ever, declared the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Luminița Odobescu, during the press conference held together the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nicu Popescu.
"It's my first visit outside of Romania, not by chance. We reviewed topics of central interest. I am glad that we can say frankly that the bilateral relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova are stronger and more effective than ever. The crises caused by the war in Ukraine only strengthened the collaboration between Bucharest and Chisinau. Since March, Romania has provided assistance to the Republic of Moldova. Also, Romania granted direct budgetary assistance to the Republic of Moldova of over 10 million euros to support citizens in the context of the deep energy crisis", said Luminița Odobescu.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomed the efforts of the Republic of Moldova to implement the 9 recommendations formulated by the European Commission.
"Granting political-diplomatic support to the Republic of Moldova for the advancement of the European agenda is a priority of Romania's foreign policy. We support obtaining a decision favorable to the start of EU accession negotiations as soon as possible. Bucharest is and will be with you at every stage of this European journey", added Luminița Odobescu.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs from Chisinau, Nicu Popescu, mentioned that this visit underlines the fraternal relations between our countries.
"During the discussions we managed to discuss several topics. The last year was a complex one for the Republic of Moldova, but we managed to strengthen relations with Romania, through the constant interaction between governments, parliaments, diplomatic missions. Thanks to the openness and dialogue we have, relations with Romania are the strongest in the last 30 years. I would like to emphasize that regardless of the political orientation, the mother tongue they speak, all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova benefit from Romania's concrete support, through the help offered to maintain peace, calm and contribute to our development", said Nicu Popescu.
Currently, the Chisinau authorities are working with Romania on the level of the Republic of Moldova's accession to the EU, Nicu Popescu pointed out.
"We discussed the future organization of the support platform for the Republic of Moldova and we will organize the next meeting in the fall. We discussed in detail the degree of fulfillment of the 9 EU recommendations, things are progressing quite well and we hope that towards the end of this year, the Republic of Moldova will obtain the recommendation to start EU accession negotiations", added the Foreign Minister.
