Nicu Popescu, one year after the Republic of Moldova obtained the status of a candidate country for the EU: "This historic opportunity opened new horizons for our country"
It's been a year since the Republic of Moldova obtained the status of a candidate country for joining the European Union. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nicu Popescu, qualified this period as full of remarkable achievements and progress. According to the official, the EU's first verbal report is a positive one, and our country has registered significant successes in the process of deoligarization, consolidation of justice and development of administrative capacities.
The head of diplomacy from Chisinau also stated that the European Union supported our country and continues to support it in maintaining peace and stability, by jointly launching the EU Partnership Mission, by sanctioning people who try to cause destabilization.
"This historic opportunity has opened new horizons for our country. This year we have made sustained efforts to bring about important reforms in various key areas. We focused on strengthening democratic values, promoting transparency and the rule of law, as well as sustainable economic and social development. Every step forward has been accompanied by the firm support and commitment of our partners in the European Union", declared Nicu Popescu.
The official also noted that joining the EU is the surest way to ensure the peace, stability and freedom of our country. We remind you that on March 3, 2022, the Republic of Moldova submitted an application for EU membership. On June 17, 2022, the European Commission issued its opinion on the application for EU membership. On June 23, 2022, the European Council granted the Republic of Moldova the status of a candidate country.
