Switzerland imposes sanctions on five people for "destabilization attempts" in the Republic of Moldova
The Federal Council of Switzerland today imposed financial sanctions and travel restrictions on five people, who were involved in acts that undermine the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Moldova.
According to a statement issued by the Federal Council in Bern, the measures consist of freezing the assets and economic resources of these persons, as well as banning entry and transit through Switzerland. The institution does not communicate the names of the persons on the sanctions list.
Thus, Switzerland joins the sanctions imposed by the European Union at the request of the Republic of Moldova, following the intensification of destabilizing actions in our country together with Russia's military aggression against Ukraine.
Switzerland is ready to support efforts to stabilize the current situation, in accordance with its commitment to cooperation for development, promotion of economic interests and the fight against corruption in the Republic of Moldova, reads the statement.
The sanctions do not in any way hinder the free trade agreement between the EFTA states (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) and the Republic of Moldova, signed on June 27 in Schaan, Liechtenstein.
