Violence in France continues for the fourth night in a row. Nearly 500 people arrested
France's Interior Ministry says nearly 500 protesters have been arrested across the country in a fourth night of violence, BBC reports.
Among those arrested are 80 people in the city of Marseille - the country's second largest - where the mayor has asked central authorities to send reinforcements so police can counter the violence.
Cars and buildings have been torched and several shops have been looted. Police in Marseille said protesters broke into a gun shop, taking shotguns with them.
The government has asked regional authorities to close bus and tram services overnight nationwide.
The unrest began on Tuesday after police shot dead a 17-year-old teenager of Algerian origin. The young man, who was killed by police officers for failing to stop at their signal, was known to the officers, who had detained him 12 other times for various offences, Le Figaro reports.
