Vlad Filat was re-elected as president of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova
The former prime minister of the Republic of Moldova, Vlad Filat, was re-elected as president of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova for the next 4 years. The decision was taken today, during the Extraordinary Congress of the formation. In his speech, Vlad Filat stated that he will act promptly for the rehabilitation of the state, and the ultimate goal - the reunification of the Republic of Moldova with Romania - will be the basis of all PLDM actions.
"I want to thank you for your trust, I want to thank you for this vote which on the one hand honors me, but on the other hand makes me responsible. I know exactly what we will do, but we will do it in a very energetic manner and I assure you it will be very effective, as we prooved that we know how to do things in the Republic of Moldova. A large part of my life is closely related to the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova, to the beautiful successes of the party, recorded for the benefit of the Republic of Moldova, for the benefit of the wonderful people who live here", declared Vlad Filat.
We remind you that in 2015, Vlad Filat resigned from the position of PLDM president, after a criminal case was opened against him and his parliamentary immunity was revoked. In 2016, Vlad Filat was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment for influence peddling and passive corruption. After his early parole in December 2019, he declared that he was not interested in political activity. But half a year later, the situation changed, after he was re-elected president of the Liberal Democrats. In April 2021, Vlad Filat again resigned, citing personal reasons.
We remind that in January 2023, former Prime Minister Vlad Filat announced that, together with PLDM, he is preparing for local elections in the fall.
