The Kingdom of Belgium will open an embassy in Moldova. Igor Grosu discussed in Brussels with the heads of the Belgian legislature
The Kingdom of Belgium will open an embassy in Moldova by the end of this year. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu discussed this in Brussels at a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives Eliane Tillieux and the President of the Senate Stephanie D'Hose. Igor Grosu thanked the Belgian authorities for their help in the context of the war in Ukraine. According to a press release from the legislature, the officials also discussed opportunities to strengthen Moldovan-Belgian relations.
"The year 2023 is an important year for the Republic of Moldova on the European agenda, and Belgium's expertise in several areas would help us enormously," the Speaker added.
Officials agreed to relaunch parliamentary dialogue at both high level and at the level of chairs and members of specialised committees.
Parliament's President Igor Grosu spoke about the authorities' reform agenda, including in the context of fulfilling the European Council's nine recommendations.
"The changes we are making to meet the conditions of the European Union are not only requirements of the accession process, they are a prerequisite for the proper functioning of the state. We are determined to do our utmost to improve the situation in the judiciary, to develop the economy and to improve people's living conditions," the head of the legislature stressed.
From 3 to 5 July, the President of Parliament is on an official visit to Brussels, where he is also scheduled to meet with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and European Commissioners Olivér Várhelyi and Elisa Ferreira.
A week before the NATO Summit in Vilnius, Igor Grosu will hold talks with NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană.
In the Kingdom of Belgium, Igor Grosu is also scheduled to meet Moldovan citizens living, studying or working in the country.
