NATO asked Russia to withdraw its troops and ammunition from the territory of the Republic of Moldova
The heads of state and government of NATO allies attending the North Atlantic Alliance Council Summit in Vilnius have called on the Russian Federation to withdraw its troops and ammunition from Moldova. At the same time, the Alliance also sent a message of support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country.
"We reiterate our support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognised borders and call on Russia to withdraw all forces stationed in the Transnistrian region without Moldova's consent. We are firm in our support for Moldova's right to decide its own future and course of foreign policy without external interference and fully respect Moldova's constitutional neutrality.
NATO is stepping up its political and practical support to strengthen its resilience and maintain its political independence in the light of the deteriorating security environment. Allies welcome Moldova's efforts to promote democratic reforms and are committed to supporting Moldova as it advances its European integration. NATO will continue to provide practical assistance through the enhanced defence capabilities package as Moldova works to strengthen its security and defence capabilities and modernise its armed forces," the statement by NATO Heads of State and Government said.
The signatories also welcomed commitments agreed with the Foreign Ministers of Georgia and Moldova and the Deputy Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the implementation of NATO's tailored support measures.
At the same time, NATO demanded that the Russian Federation immediately stop the war in Ukraine and withdraw completely and unconditionally all its forces and equipment from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognised limits, extending into its territorial waters.
"We urge all countries not to offer any assistance to Russia's aggression and condemn all those who actively facilitate Russia's war. Belarus' support has been essential as it continues to provide its territory and infrastructure to enable Russian forces to attack Ukraine and support Russia's aggression. Belarus in particular, as well as Iran, must end its complicity with Russia and return to respect for international law," the statement added.
